General Summary/Purpose

The mission of the International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is to accelerate equitable and sustainable access to life-saving vaccines through the generation, synthesis, and use of evidence to inform decision-making and action. IVAC’s work focuses on disease epidemiology, vaccine economics and supply, monitoring and evaluation of vaccine introduction and center programs, and advocacy and communications activities to increase the profile of and global action on vaccine-preventable disease.

IVAC seeks to fill a Program Coordinator position to support project management activities for projects focused on generating and translating evidence, supporting decision making and program implementation, and advancing policy and advocacy efforts for routine immunization. The Program Coordinator will support three projects to disseminate evidence and accelerate global access to routine immunization:

The Program Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Project Directors to support project-specific objectives and activities, to include project management, monitoring and evaluation, operations support, knowledge management, material and report development, and others to support project goals and deliverables. Specific responsibilities will vary from month to month depending on project needs and will not exceed 100% FTE at any point in time.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Implement project strategies and work plans as developed by Project Directors
  • Support Project Directors and technical staff in coordinating, completing and disseminating project deliverables; developing and managing monitoring and evaluation tools; and tracking project metrics
  • Support Project Directors in completing formal and informal reporting to funders and stakeholders by compiling information/updates, drafting/facilitating review of documents, and ensuring timeline submission of deliverables
  • Participate in regular project team meetings and conference calls with partners and funder(s)
  • Develop agendas and associated materials, identify participants, and track outcomes and actions for internal and external meetings
  • Develop and manage Gantt charts, work plans, and other tools for project management, and ensure team awareness of project deliverable status
  • Conduct targeted literature reviews and synthesize available literature
  • Develop and facilitate review of technical and advocacy materials, including fact sheets, brochures, slide decks, abstracts, reports, and other resources; develop and maintain relationships with IVAC technical faculty and external technical experts who contribute to the review and finalization of these materials
  • Plan and support implementation of project team meetings/retreats and external workshops, meetings, and technical advocacy events, including agenda development and coordination
  • Support development, implementation and evaluation of advocacy strategy for global, regional and in-country stakeholders
  • As needed, support Project Directors in developing proposals or other documentation for new or continued funding and coordinating with internal and external partners for new funding
  • Communicate challenges, requirements and deadlines to project team and ensure project timelines and deliverables are met

Minimum Qualifications (Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • At least three (3) years of related experience (project coordination/management, public health, or related area)

Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula: *18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. **

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related field (i.e. public health, program management, health communication, etc.)
  • At least one (1) year of experience in public or international health, international development, or a related field
  • At least one (1) year of experience in project coordination, monitoring, and evaluation, and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of epidemiologic research methods, especially vaccine impact/effectiveness studies
  • Experience in or knowledge of vaccines and immunization, health systems, infectious diseases, and/or maternal and child health in low- and middle-income countries
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills, and demonstrated ability to interact on a professional level with stakeholders from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds
  • Understanding of project implementation in low- or middle-income countries
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work well independently and in teams
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and work well under pressure with demanding and/or shifting deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and citation manager software
  • Data visualization skills
  • French language skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
